Here, amidst these ashes and remains,
burned up fears and wallowing pains,
still hanging in the air,
I can feel it rising up from there.
Up through my gut into my chest,
past the lump in my throat, my very best,
within this rubble of all that seems cursed,
I will trust my heart when things are worst.
I will take my dreams, all black and charred,
dreams others would surely disregard,
and bind them up with an angel’s rope,
I will heal my dreams with only hope.
When they are healed and whole again,
my faith rebuilding will begin,
a foundation of friendship and ancient stone,
a reaping of all the seeds I’ve sown.
The scars on my heart being stronger still,
mended by love and the force of my will,
let go and give once more,
just like every time before,
but with a knowledge new to me,
a trust of what is meant to be,
I will rise up into the night,
A Phoenix burning with new light.
